SUPPORT GROUPS

All support groups and meeting in-person and online via Zoom.

The benefits of support groups have grown enormously over the last decade and for good reason. Researchers, participants, and physicians all recognize and appreciate their benefits. 

Diabetic Support Group

The Diabetic Support Group offers education and peer counseling on the 3rd Thursday of every month at 1:00 p.m.

Topics may include:

  • Meal planning, weight control, carbohydrate counting

  • Medication and insulin information and updates

  • Self-monitoring blood glucose readings

  • Managing high and low blood sugars

  • Understanding and prevention of diabetes complications and emergencies

  • Stress management, risk reduction, and problem-solving

  • Foot screening and foot-care guidelines

  • Prevention and detection of diabetes induced eye disease

Parkinson's Support Group

The Parkinson's Support Group offers education and peer counseling on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:00 a.m.

Topics may include:

  • Identify dietary and meal planning strategies that to benefit someone with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

  • Medication and updates

  • Building a care team

  • Managing PD in the hospital

  • Sleep management 

  • Managing mental health

  • Importance of exercising

Care Group

The Care Group prepares seniors and caregivers for successful aging on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 1:30 p.m.

Topics may include:

  • Identify dietary and meal planning strategies that to benefit someone with Parkinson’s disease (PD).

  • Medication and updates

  • Building a care team

  • Managing PD in the hospital

  • Sleep management 

  • Managing mental health

  • Importance of exercising

Young Adult Support Group

The Young Adult Support Group prepares young adults ages 16 to 30 as they plan for productive, independent, and meaningful adult lives. The group meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 3:00 p.m. 

Topics may include:

  • Identify goals and how to breakdown the steps to achieve them

  • Increase critical thinking skills

  • Building a support team

  • Introduce supported decision making

  • Increase knowledge of employment opportunities

  • Importance of social skills
